The late gay designer Alexander McQueen�s fashion label is to design Kate Middleton�s wedding dress for marriage to Prince William according to the Sunday Times.
The newspaper calls its scoop the �fashion secret of the year�, it claims that that Miss Middleton will wear a dress designed by Sarah Burton, the creative designer of Alexander McQueen, founded by the openly gay fashion designer of the same name who committed suicide last year.
A fashion source told the newspaper that the dress will be combination of Miss Middleton�s own ideas and Ms Burton�s �deep knowledge and understanding of high fashion.�
Jonathan Akeroyd, chief executive of Alexander McQueen, reportedly a colleague that he had got the commission, although he denied this when asked by the Sunday Times. �No, not at all, I am the CEO. I would know if we were doing it,� he told the paper. Designers of previous royal wedding dresses have been bound by secrecy by Buckingham Palace.
Alexander McQueen designed the wedding dress for Sara Buys who married Prince William�s step brother Tom Parker Bowles in 2005.
McQueen took a cocktail of drugs including cocaine before hanging himself the day before his mother�s funeral in February of 2010. He had a history of depression and anxiety and had researched how to commit suicide on the internet before he died.
The 40-year-old had taken cocaine, sleeping pills and tranquillisers before his body was found by his cleaner.
